Dia de los Muertos Altar Set up
Dear parents and guardians,
We are excited to announce that our school will be setting up an altar for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) beginning on Monday October 27, 2025.
This vibrant and meaningful tradition honors and remembers our loved ones who have passed away. It is an opportunity for our students to learn about and appreciate the rich cultural heritage associated with this holiday. We encourage families to discuss this celebration at home, helping our children understand its significance and history.
Here are some ways you can participate in the Día de los Muertos celebration from home:
- Create an Ofrenda: Set up a small altar at home with photos and mementos of loved ones who have passed away. Students and families can bring photos to add to the school altar on October 27th.
- Decorate Sugar Skulls: Make sugar skulls at home for your children to decorate with colorful icing and other embellishments. This can be a fun, creative activity!
- Share Stories: Share stories about your loved ones with your children. This helps deepen understanding and connection to the celebration.
- Make Traditional Foods: Prepare traditional foods associated with Día de los Muertos, like pan de muerto (a special bread) or tamales, and share them during family meals.
- Craft Activities: Create papel picado (colorful paper banners) or other crafts that symbolize the celebration, which can then be displayed at home or brought to school for our school’s altar.
We invite you to join us on Monday October 27,2025 at 2:30 pm to begin the set up of our school altar.
If you would like to contribute items for our altar or assist with decorations, please let your child’s teacher know. Some items that can be donated are Marigolds (fresh, artificial, or paper), Papel Picado, or altar decorations .
Thank you for your support as we come together to honor those we have lost and celebrate the importance of family and memory.
Thank you for your involvement!
